About Us
The Students Overseas Foundation is a Canadian non-profit organization that works to eliminate education inequality in developing nations around the world. Our vision is to build a future free of any discrepancies in education and full of equal opportunities for all students. The foundation uses the acronym SOS, a universally recognized distress signal, to spread awareness of the disparities in education among emerging nations and emphasize their need for help.
Our Story
The SOS Foundation was started by a Canadian high school student who went to Emily Carr Secondary School in Vaughan, Ontario. He learned of the heartbreaking tragedies occurring around the world that were stemming from education inequality, and he wanted to make a difference. He felt it unfair that students born in Canada were able to receive a premium elementary and secondary education for free, when students younger than himself who were born just an ocean away, were dropping out of school everyday because they could not afford it.
He decided that change must be made, and instead of sitting around and watching it happen, he decided to take action. The SOS Foundation was incorporated on March 11th, 2021 under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act, with the sole purpose of carving out a brighter future for students in need. Despite the increased challenges and restrictions due to COVID-19, we are determined to raise money for schools in developing nations and improve their education system,
one student at a time.

Emaan is a Grade 11 Student in Ontario who enjoys being active within her community. She works as an SOS member to help change the system for the better and to bring a positive change to the world.
Xan Rathore

Xan is a 16 year old boy living in Vaughan, Ontario, and has aspired to help the people in need. He has traveled all over the world and has met numerous children struggling to survive. He helped create the SOS Foundation to make sure underprivileged kids could have access to the same education as he had.

Alessia is a Grade 11 student from Vaughan, Ontario who often puts herself in other people's shoes and so, she is very passionate about making a difference and helping those who can not help themselves. She believes that big or small, everyone can make a difference.

Florence is a Grade 11 student from Toronto, Ontario with a strong passion for advocacy and social justice issues. She joined the SOS foundation in hopes of bringing to light the education disparities around the world and doing her part to help those in need.

Bianca is a grade 11 student who values the immense importance of education and helping others. Whilst working with the SOS Foundation she hopes to help eliminate educational inequality, so that all children can have the educational opportunities that were available to her as a Canadian citizen.
